Why Choose Our Fertile Barred Rock Hatching Eggs?

Moreover, we handle and package each egg with the utmost care, ensuring they arrive at your doorstep with the best possible start for a successful hatch.

The Renowned Barred Rock Chicken Breed

Often called Plymouth Rock chickens, this American classic is a masterpiece of poultry breeding. They are instantly recognizable by their striking black and white “barred” feather pattern, which gives them a stunning, shimmering appearance in the sunlight. Beyond their beauty, they possess a exceptionally calm and friendly demeanor, making them a perfect addition to any family flock. For more on their history and characteristics, the Livestock Conservancy’s Plymouth Rock page is an excellent resource.

Superior Brown Egg Laying Capability

When you hatch our Barred Rock eggs, you are investing in a future of fresh, wholesome eggs. These birds are prolific layers of large to extra-large brown eggs. Notably, they are known for their consistency, often continuing their egg production through the colder winter months when other breeds slow down. This makes them undeniably one of the best chickens for brown eggs you can raise. If you’re comparing layers, our guide on selecting the right chicken breed for your homestead can help.

Your Guide to Hatching Success

Hatching eggs is an incredibly rewarding experience. To maximize your success, proper preparation is key.

Preparing for Your Hatching Eggs

First, ensure your incubator is clean, calibrated, and running steadily at 99.5°F (37.5°C) with a humidity of 40-50% for the first 18 days. Furthermore, let your shipped eggs rest for at least 12 hours at room temperature with the pointed end down before placing them in the incubator. This allows the air cell to re-stabilize after its journey.

The Incubation and Hatching Process

During incubation, you should turn the eggs a minimum of three times daily to prevent the embryo from sticking to the shell membrane. However, you must stop turning on day 18, also known as “lockdown.” At this stage, you will increase the humidity to 65-70%. The chicks will then pip and hatch on days 20-21. Additionally, we offer a full range of essential hatching supplies and incubators to equip you for the journey.
